Spending Excesses & Doublespeak at GSA

I’m not going to focus on the boring fact that government officials waste horrendous sums of taxpayer money, but rather on how propaganda works.
Obviously, anytime the waste in government makes it to the surface, the people in them mainstream media, who obviously depend on recurring extensions of their FCC license, will spin the story in a way to make it look like something “is being done”, “investigative committees” are being formed, heads are rolling, etc. etc.
Another government official was placed on administrative leave Monday in the continuing fallout over wasteful spending involving a 2010 Las Vegas conference for government workers, the General Services Administration announced.
OK, now what does that mean? Has he been fired? Stripped off his pensions? Of course not, what’s more likely to happen in government in cases like these is that people are sent on a paid vacation until things calm down, moved to another position, etc.
The article also points out:
Foley became the eighth member of the GSA staff to be fired, placed on leave or otherwise removed from their job because of the controversy,
Note how the writer uses the word “fired” first and then mixes in “placed on leave” or “otherwise removed from their job”, to make it sound like “8 people have been fired”.
An administration official also astutely points something out in the following paragraph:
With the agency coming under fire, an Obama administration source told CNN that the budget for the biennial conference ballooned during the Bush administration, growing from just under $94,000 for the 2004 event in Portland, Oregon, to just over $655,000 by the 2008 confab in New Orleans. By comparison, the source said, the tab for the 2010 conference was only 28% higher than 2008.
OK, so under the previous administration the budget grew from 94k to 655k which is obviously horrendous, but then under the present administration it grew from that amount to an EVEN HIGHER amount of around 838k, and this person is trying to spin it as an accomplishment that it only grew by 28%.
Need I say more?
Keep events like these in mind when you hear public sector cry babies kick and scream for more money, more spending, higher taxes, as if there was no overhead, no waste, no excessive spending that could conceivably be cut anywhere.
This is not a shocking or extraordinary event, this is rather a symptom of business as usual in the immoral, flawed, incentive-less, criminal, boring, and retarded racket, commonly referred to as “The State”.
