The Junkie Marches On …

The Junkie has spread his message. You may have agreed to some of his views, and disagreed with others. But no matter what the issue, you will know his position. Because he stands on firm principles. He doesn’t need to sway from one opinion to a different one every minute.

He believes in freedom, period. No exceptions, no ambiguities, no excuses. Freedom in society means Liberty, Liberty presupposes Peace, Peace leads to Prosperity, and Prosperity is crucial to Happiness.

The message is clear and simple. Anyone with basic knowledge and understanding will get it and agree. But the main challenge is that of reaching out to the masses of uneducated and indoctrinated people. For in a democracy it is they who determine who is to lead a nation.

The Junkie exists in all of us. He is that force in us that strives for understanding, clarity, and direction. He remains unsatisfied when yet another politician makes yet another shallow statement – he knows that it’s no good when we nonetheless decide to vote him into office. He makes us question the ivy league professor who tells us that wealth can be conjured up out of a printing press – and he waves the flag when we go along for the sake of temporary comfort. He is that element in us that makes us pause and question when people around us shrug and say “They said it, so it must be true…” -  and he cries out in disappointment when he loses grip of us again and we comply reluctantly.

But none of this will ever make the Junkie stop. He is relentless, uncompromising, and determined. He knows too well that, in the long run, the truth will prevail.

It was he who once told the clerics that the earth was round. The masses ridiculed him, those in power despised him. He prevailed.

It was he who spent sleepless nights to invent electricity, light, and the steam engine, while others laughed at him. His eager was rewarded.

It was he who once declared on the steps at the Lincoln Memorial in Washington D.C., that he had a dream of equality before the law for every man on earth. His call was heard.

It was he who wrote “that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”

It was he who went on to say  “That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government.”

And it is he who needs to be unleashed once again and for the same reason. But one Junkie can only produce so much Junk. He needs companions in the fight for truth. He needs a community of EconomicsJunkies who share the same understanding and vision.
